Pieces of the Homeland

Toros Garabedian and Dirouhi Der Torossian, Jennie Garabedian's parents, in New Britain, CT.

Over a century has passed since the Armenian genocide begun, and the idea of peaceful life in Armenia before 1915 has become a mere memory, handed down from survivors to their children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. With the genocide, diaspora, and politican unrest that persists in the region to this day, it is no surprise that many descendants of Armenian genocide survivors still mourn the ordinary, domestic Armenian lives their ancestors once had. Recollections of this time, handed down through generations and detailed during our community interviews, are the subject of this section of the exhibit.
