This collection is composed of photos and papers relating the Firkatian family's experiences during and following the Armenian genocide, as compiled by Mari Firkatian. After the genocide began, the family fled to Burgas, Bulgaria, remaining close to Armenia in the hopes that they might be able to reclaim their property after the war was over. the family lived in poverty there, and moved to the United States when Mari was fourteen. Now a historian and professor at the University of Hartford, Mari has done extensive research on the Armenian diaspora, and has also published a cookbook of Armenian recipes.
