Description

The papers and photographs in this collection chronicle the story of the Garabedian family's experiences in the Armenian genocide, as compiled and explained by Jennie Garabedian. Jennie's father and mother, Toros (Sagahek) Garabedian and Dirouhi der Torossian, were both born in the village of Garmery, in the Province of Kharpert. Prior to the genocide, Toros had moved to America, while Dirouhi stayed in Garmery. When the genocide began, Dirouhi was able to escape with her daughter (Jennie's sister) to Aleppo, and Toros later traveled to Aleppo and brought them back with him to the USA, where the family attempted to rebuild their lives.
